A policy is a flagging rule that checks incoming messages against one or more dictionaries. When you create a policy you give it a name, choose the message direction it applies to, decide whether it is global or scoped to specific platforms, and select the dictionaries it should check.

Navigate to the Policies page under Lexicon. The heading reads Policies with the subtitle "Manage lexicon policies".

Click Create policy (or Add policy in the empty state). The New policy form opens with the subtitle "Create a new flagging policy".

In the Policy name field, type a name for the policy.

Under Message direction ("Which message direction does this policy apply to?"), use the toggle to select All, Outbound, or Inbound. The default is All.

Under Platforms, use the toggle to choose Global or Apply To Platforms. As the helper text states, "Platforms can only be applied if this is a non-global policy." When you select Apply To Platforms, the platform selector ("Select platforms...") becomes enabled so you can choose specific platforms.

Under Dictionaries ("Select dictionaries this policy should apply to."), click Show dictionaries to expand the list, then tick the dictionaries you want this policy to check. Each dictionary row shows how many phrases it checks, how many policies it is applied to, and its match type. At least one dictionary is required; if none is selected the form shows "At least one dictionary is required".

Click Create policy. While submitting, the button shows "Creating...".

IMPORTANT: Policies are evaluated at ingest time only. Enabling a new policy does not flag existing messages, and changes are not retroactive. Import messages skip flagging entirely.

NOTE: For an outbound match, the sender's address must match your organisation's email domains. Direction logic only applies to email.

NOTE: A non-global policy only fires for the platforms you specify. Policy names must be unique per organisation.
