Set up a new data source connection to capture communications.

Summary

A connection in MirrorWeb Insight is a data source that captures communications for a given platform. This article covers creating a single connection from the Connections page. The flow has two stages: selecting a platform and entering the connection details. Some platforms (such as email, Microsoft Teams and Slack channels) use a separate, multi-page central onboarding flow — see "How to set up a central connection" for those.

Prerequisites

  • Login credentials to MirrorWeb Insight

  • Admin access for the organisation

  • At least one licensed platform available for the organisation (if none are available, the page shows "No licensed platforms available. Contact your Customer Success agent to request access.")

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Open the Connections page

In the Connection management area, select Connections from the sidebar. The page is headed Connections with the subtext "Manage connections for" your organisation.

Step 2: Start a new connection

Click the Add connections button (top right), then choose New Connection from the menu.

Step 3: Select a platform

You are taken to the New connection page, which shows two stages: Platform selection and Connection details. On the Platform selection stage, choose the platform you want to connect by clicking its card.

If you have used all your licenses for a platform, clicking the card shows a "License quota reached" message and offers to request more licenses.

Step 4: Enter the connection details

On the Connection details stage, complete the form. The fields depend on the platform:

  • For most platforms: Connection name ("Enter an optional name for this connection.") and Admin email address ("This is used as a point of contact for this connection.").

  • For mobile platforms (e.g. WhatsApp, iMessage): Connection name, User email address ("This is where the connection invite will be sent to."), and Phone number ("The phone number we'll be tracking for this connection."). iMessage also shows a Login type field.

Step 5: Create the connection

Click Create connection to save. You can use Previous to return to platform selection. If a connection with the same name already exists for that platform, an error toast is shown ("... connection with the name ... already exists").

Notes

Note: After creation, the new connection appears in the Connections table with a status badge. Newly created connections show as Unactivated until activated; other statuses are Connected, Pending, Expired, Deauthorized, Static and Removed.

Note: For platforms that require authentication (OAuth and mobile platforms), you send a connection invitation email separately from the Connections table or the Actions menu.
