How to Get Started with Web Changes

Prerequisites

  • Access to MirrorWeb Insight and relevant permissions for this workflow.

Step-by-Step Instructions

This guide shows you how to enable and use Web Changes — MirrorWeb's website content monitoring feature — to track additions, removals, and updates across your archived web profiles.

What is Web Changes?

Web Changes monitors your archived websites and generates a daily text comparison (diff) between each crawl. When content is added, removed, or updated on a page, it surfaces that change for your team to review and action.

It's designed for organizations managing large web estates or those with compliance responsibilities over websites they don't directly control.

Prerequisites

  • Access to the MirrorWeb platform with at least one web archive profile configured

  • Membership of the Web Changes team in your organization (see below)

Step 1: Enable Access

Web Changes is enabled on a team basis. To gain access:

  1. Navigate to your organization's team settings.

  2. Add yourself to the Web Changes team.

For full instructions, see How to add yourself to a team.

Step 2: Navigate to the Changes Inbox

  1. Log in to the MirrorWeb platform.

  2. Go to the Web section from the main navigation.

  3. Select the Changes tab.

You will see the Changes Inbox — a list of every change rule configured for your profiles. Each row shows:

  • The profile/website the change is associated with

  • A summary of pages added, removed, and updated

  • The current status of that change set (e.g. Not Started, In Progress, Complete)

Note: Changes are generated on the same schedule as the profile's crawl frequency (e.g. daily, monthly).

Step 3: Review a Change Set

  1. Click into any change set from the inbox.

  2. You will see a list of individual page changes, grouped and indicated by type:

    • Added (green) — new pages detected

    • Removed (red) — pages no longer present

    • Updated (blue) — pages where text content has changed

  3. Click on an individual page to view the side-by-side text differential, showing exactly what was added or removed in that page's content.

Tip: The diff view is compressed to show only the areas that changed, rather than the entire page, making it easier to identify what matters.

Step 4: Action Each Change

For each change, you can:

  • Mark it as Compliant or Non-Compliant

  • Update the status (Not Started → In Progress → Complete) to manage your review workflow, similar to Vaults

  • Export the change content for reporting or audit purposes

  • Navigate between changes using the Next Change button

View in Archive Compare

If you want to see a full visual comparison of how a page looked before and after a change:

  1. From within a page change, click View in Compare.

  2. This opens the standard MirrorWeb archive compare view, showing the before and after versions side by side.

Managing URL Exclusions

Some websites contain pages or content areas that generate noise. You can exclude these URLs from Web Changes monitoring.

To add a URL exclusion:

  1. From within the Changes view, click the three dots (⋯) menu and select Site Settings.

    • Alternatively, go to the list of sites, click on the relevant site, then select Settings.

  2. Go to the Web Changes section within Site Settings.

  3. Add the URL you want to exclude. Two match types are available:

    • Exact match — excludes only that specific URL

    • Prefix match — excludes all URLs beginning with that path (e.g. example.com/funds would exclude all pages under /funds)

Important: URL exclusions are configured per profile. You will need to add exclusions separately for each profile where they are needed.

Filtering and Sorting

From the Changes Inbox, you can filter change sets by various criteria to focus your review. The default sort order displays pages added first, followed by removed, then updated.
