How to view message context (threads and social posts)

View a message in its wider context — open the conversation thread for a chat message, or expand a captured social media post to see its comments and replies.

Summary

When you are reviewing a message, you can open it in its wider context. There are two context views, depending on the type of message:

  • For a message that belongs to a conversation, View in thread opens the full thread so you can read the surrounding messages in sequence, load more of the conversation, and review messages from within the thread.

  • For a captured social media post, Expand full screen opens a full-screen post view showing the post together with its comments, replies, reactions, and attachments.

Both views let you mark messages compliant or non-compliant and escalate them directly.

Prerequisites

  • Login credentials to MirrorWeb Insight

  • Communications access permissions

  • A message open in the message view

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Open the message

Open the message you want to review from your search results or message list. The message content is shown in the message view, along with the context controls available for that message.

Step 2: Open the conversation thread

For a message that is part of a conversation, click View in thread. The thread view opens, showing the conversation messages in sequence with the message you came from highlighted by a coloured border.

Note: View in thread is disabled when the message has no thread, and when participant data is missing it is disabled with the tooltip "Thread not determinable due to missing sender/recipient data". In that case the thread view shows the message "Thread not determinable due to missing sender/recipient data".

Step 3: Read and navigate the thread

In the thread, each message shows the sender, content, platform icon, sent time, and its review status icon. Edited messages show an (edited) link to their version history, and deleted messages are marked.

  • Use the Load older messages and Load newer messages controls at the top and bottom of the thread to bring in more of the conversation. When there are no more, the view shows "No previous messages" or "No newer messages".

  • Click View details on a message to open its full detail view.

  • Where a message has replies, a Show replies link appears. The reply view has a Back to full chat link to return to the full thread.

Step 4: Expand a social media post

For a captured social media post, click the Expand full screen button (the expand icon, tooltip "Expand full screen"). This opens the full-screen post view, which shows the post alongside its comments. Each comment shows the author, content, sent time, and review status, along with any captured reactions; replies are nested beneath their comment. If there are no comments, the view shows "No comments".

Step 5: Open attachments

In both views, image and video attachments open in a lightbox when clicked, and other files can be downloaded from the Show attachments section. Flagged attachments are marked with a flag icon.

Notes

Note: You can mark messages compliant or non-compliant and escalate them directly from both the thread view and the post view, using the action buttons on each message or comment.
